What we do
The Butterfly Foundation is a non-profit organisation and we are registered as a non-governmental organisation (NGO). This means that we are an autonomous non-profit and non-party/politically-unaffiliated organisation that advances a particular cause or set of causes in the public interest.
We are fortunately to have a large group of members who contribute where, how and when they can. Our members give financial contributions, some monthly and some on an ad-hoc or project-specific basis and others give their precious time in order to make a positive difference in the lives of those who need it most.
During our usual weekly Christian sell-group meeting, we discussed the need to get more actively involved in our community and thought how great it would be if we could create a platform whereby ourselves, our friends and family can “pay it forward” so to speak and also see the tangible benefits and impact of our actions. And that’s how The Butterfly Foundation was founded in 2009 in Cape Town, and today it has grown much bigger than what had in mind back then.
The Management Committee of The Butterfly Foundation meet on a regular basis, we identify suitable projects to support and allocate our members’ contributions accordingly. We are a bunch of normal guys with normal day-jobs – accounting, analysis, marketing, ministering, IT etc. Surprisingly, most of us work in finance where the aim is usually to make money for our clients, but through The Butterfly Foundation we do the exact opposite – we don’t make any profits, we allocate our members’ financial contributions to those who need it most and we ask for nothing in return.
